Basement flooding risks – time for a new sump pump?

During heavy rainstorms lately, I’ve been noticing that my basement sump pump sounds like it is working way too hard and struggling to keep up. I really want to avoid any water damage before the next big storm hits. Has anyone recently gone through a sump pump replacement, and how do you know when it's time to upgrade?

Hearing a sump pump struggle or run continuously is definitely a warning sign you shouldn't ignore. When ours started acting up last spring, we called out a technician who recommended a full sump pump installation to handle heavy water flow better.
